GRADE 420 IS A MARTENSITIC STAINLESS STEEL ALLOY, ENHANCED WITH SULFUR FOR IMPROVED MACHINABILITY. AS A MODIFICATION OF 410 STAINLESS STEEL, IT CONTAINS A MINIMUM OF 12% CHROMIUM, PROVIDING MODERATE CORROSION RESISTANCE—BEST ACHIEVED WHEN HARDENED AND POLISHED OR SURFACE GROUND. IN THE ANNEALED CONDITION, 420 STAINLESS OFFERS GOOD DUCTILITY AND CAN BE HARDENED TO A ROCKWELL HARDNESS OF 50 HRC, THE HIGHEST AMONG 12% CHROMIUM GRADES.
Uses
NUTS BOLTS, & STUDS, GEARS, VALVE PARTS, SHEAR BLADES, CUTLERY SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS.
